Swami Vivekananda Saraswati

Founder, Director and Head teacher of Agama: Born in 1962, Swami Vivekananda Saraswati is the brilliant exponent of a unique and modern trend of thinking in Yoga. Educated as an electrical engineer, he is a passionate and dedicated teacher of the true, ancient lines of Indian and Tibetan Yoga, rapidly becoming lost in today’s “spiritual marketplace.”

Although he does not deviate in spirit from the traditional teachings of ancient masters, he has found the resources to present spirituality not as something dogmatic and dead, but as a living science, based on common sense and joy, which at the same time fulfills the fundamental quest of man.

He first studied spiritual sciences at the age of 16 with his first spiritual mentor and, by the onset of university studies three years later, had begun intense yogic and tantric practice under the guidance of his first guru. During the Communist period of the 1980s, Romanian Yoga teachers suffered severe persecution (arrests, torture, beatings, etc.), and Swami was one of those who shared this fate. In 1990 he moved to Copenhagen where he founded NATHA, now Denmark’s largest Yoga school. In 1998, Swami Vivekananda – a gold medalist in the Physics Olympics who was also accepted for membership to Mensa International – took full sannyasa vows at the Kumbha Mela in India, at which time his diksha guru gave him his new and famous name representing discriminating insight. Subsequently, he spent four years in India, where he taught in Rishikesh, and was so well regarded that the Indian government found him best qualified to represent Yoga at its International Yoga Week!

While restrained by a modesty that prevents him from discussing it often, Swami Vivekananda has reached high states of spiritual realization and samadhi, and therefore can offer a proven path to spiritual accomplishment and does so in well-articulated concepts. He is one of the few Western tantric teachers well versed in Kundalini Yoga and Gnostic Christianity, and even specializing in the intensely spiritual Tantra Yoga of Kashmir Shaivism. His genius is in giving a coherent representation of world spirituality in an impeccably practical form.

In the middle of an intense teaching schedule, Swami is calm and tireless. One moment he is healing (he is a practitioner of chiropractic and other healing methods), another moment lecturing on subjects outside the courses or giving direct initiations to a class, sometimes demonstrating asanas or pranayama, other times discussing personal life problems with pupils, possibly in their own language (he speaks five). He inspires with his personal example, with examples from history, quoting uninterruptedly from scores of ancient texts and spiritual masters – and with a great sense of humor.

This exceptional man, who has dedicated his life to guiding others along this pure and true spiritual path, is regarded by his pupils as a highly realized, beloved Yoga master and gifted teacher.

Juan Ananda

Founder and Tantra and Yoga teacher of Agama yoga Colombia:
Juan, a Taurus (with ascendant Leo), was born in a small city in the Andes Mountains of Colombia, South America. Most of his childhood and young life was spent on a farm surrounded by nature, joy and love; it was a beautiful and happy time.

At age 18 he moved to the capital of Colombia to study business. He completed his university studies plus a Masters in London, where he also went into business, but after a while he found out that was not actually for him. At this juncture a friend introduced him to the transcendental meditation technique of Ramana Maharshi, which opened the first spiritual window in his life, besides the special and close connection he already had with the spirit of Jesus due to his Christian (Catholic) background.

He continued to travel all over the world until, while working on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean Sea, he met up with one of his good friends with whom he used to meditate. This friend advised him to go to India and, without a second thought, he disembarked the ship in Brazil and went there directly, where he first did a few Vipassana meditation retreats all over the country with the legendary Goenka. Shortly thereafter in Rishikesh, he had the merit and Grace to meet for the first time

After completing the First Level Intensive Course and Level 2 in Rishikesh, he visited Japan, where he learned the basis of other disciplines that synchronize very well with Yoga, like the Japanese tea ceremony, Zen, and shiatsu. After Japan, he was on his way back to India with the firm decision to become a Vipassana meditation teacher. There was no other option in his mind at that time, but along the way he had to stop in Bangkok, Thailand, and saw that Swami Vivekananda was also there on Koh Phangan Island, giving complete teachings. Juan went to visit him for just a week to say hello, but God and karma had other plans for him; he stayed with Swamiji, receiving teachings for more than three years. What a great fortune…. He then felt tremendous happiness and gratitude to have received all those teachings and techniques from Swami, to have practiced and verified their efficiency, especially within his studies of such topics as the yamas and niyamas, Hatha Yoga, Kriya Yoga, the Great Cosmic Powers, Kundalini Yoga, sexuality in Tantra, Kashmiri Shaivism, Shambhala, the life of Jesus, the Art of Dying, and others.

When Juan returned to Colombia he translated most of the Agama course materials of the first cycle from English into Spanish, as well as some traditional texts. For a few years he gave introductory Yoga weekend workshops in Spanish all over Colombia as well as the complete Level 1 in Spanish. He also spent a few months helping to teach courses and holding a Tantra Workshop at Agama Yoga – Mexico.

He feels it’s a great honor to be one more link in this lineage of unique teachings, and he hopes to be able to guide and help others to help themselves discover where real happiness, knowledge, and freedom lie. Most of all, he hopes that Grace will always stay with him to maintain a steady practice with a high aspiration for the Divine.

Juan, now living on the farm where he spent his childhood, recently opened a very successful hostel for travelers in Sogamoso, winner of a 2013 TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice award and mentioned as a highlight worth visiting in the Lonely Planet – Colombia guidebook. He reopened the Agama Yoga – Colombia center in 2013 to bring the benefit of these wonderful teachings and practices to many new students.

Arja studied holistic nutrition and she has a great interest in living life as harmonious with nature as possible, taking care of that what is taking care of her.

While traveling around the world, she explored different cultures and traditions in which she discovered many other ways to move through life, which helped her to de-condition herself slowly from how things should be done in western society. With a fascination to learn, grow and develop more she immersed herself in different spiritual communities where she got introduced into the teachings of the mystics, shamanism, sacred femininity and tantra. The exploration of different spiritual approaches helped her to grow and blossom on this path.

After this broad orientation Arja wanted to dive deeper into one spiritual path and the teachings of Tantra best fits with her personality. Therefore, finding Agama was a true gift for her, to be able to dive deeper into the mysteries of this path. Her journey on the Tantric path has brought her tremendous transformations on different levels of her being, physically, energetically, emotionally and mentally while fully embracing the tantric lifestyle.

The gift will keep on giving as it’s in her fiery nature that she wants to share and inspire others with these beautiful teachings, which made her become a Tantra Teacher. Together with her practices as a yoga and meditation teacher focusing on the Spiritual Heart, Arja will present the teachings full of passion on a background of love and sacredness.

Leo was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 38 years old, taurus, he has lived a quite intense life from birth to this very present moment.

Pretty much sport oriented, grew up swiming and at very early age achieved great national records. After a few shortwhile break in his sport life, for an intense party life, his sportive practice returned with a more mature and adventurous performance with outdoor sports, such as, ocean swiming, triathlon and skateboarding. The committment with hata yoga came to happen in his life quite later.

He graduated in business administration in Brazil and acquired specialization in project management in UC Berkeley – California, US, and an MBA social entrepreneurship management in Brazil as well. He has spent 6 years working in a family business, up untill year 2000, when he found that such experience had to come to an end and his own path was about to start. Since than, spirituality had never really caught him, on the contrary, he had been too busy up to that time with his intense playboy life.

After leaving his family business, he went for a sabatic year in USA and Europe, where a new life perspective had opened inside himself and he found out the world was much bigger than he had experienced so far. Making this part of the story short, since than he never stopped traveling but mainly his inner journey had started. From an interesting point of view, a short depression had saved his life from boredom and being extremely self centered and selfish to an amazingly transforming experience into his first real contact with yoga into its most plain form, the karma yoga, the yoga of service, what in the west people are calling, volunteer work. It was thru karma yoga, 12 years ago that his spiritual awekening took place and since than has brought him extraordinary experiences such as, living a short experience in a poverty vowl in Brazil and Bangladesh. After that, he shifted his professional experience and worked during 7 years managing projects regarding to sustainability development, as business consultant and NGO manager.

Since than, in 2009, Leo has made another shift in his life and started living more oriented to practices and experiences that genuinely bring to himself and people around him, the self realization and the awakening to the soul to the divine, cosmic counsciousness. After a period of 4 years of intense spiritual practice with a cristian oriented philosophy, mainly serving the underprivileged people, he went on and experienced tibetan budhism where he learned advanced meditation techniques and, where till nowadays he has his heart tide up. After spending a year in Bangladesh and India, where he was living in a slum, working with street children and consecutively practicing Budhism, he returned to Brazil and whether by coincidence or not, he was neighbour of a hindu oriented cultural center and community, where a year later he ended up living and learning about the Vedantic form of yoga, the Bhakti or devotional yoga, experiencing a monastic life.

He has taught both ashtanga and hata yoga before, but the Agama yoga style has become his great passion since he graduated at Agama in Thailand last january. He is extremely convinced that the Agama yoga has a great potential for life transforming of everyone who dedicate to it for a consecutive period of time relevant changes can already happen to the practitioner, as he has experienced himself. Therefore, Leo is keen to meet you at the yoga hall of the Agama school, freshly inaugurated in the Colombian Himalayas. Namaste!

Noa was born in France in may 1981. She spent one year in India in 2003 for an exchange program, doing her master studies in History. This stay completely changed her life. After that she kept on deepening her practice of yoga and meditation.

As a Taurus, loving art and beauty, she worked as a Tour Guide and Interpreter in France for 5 years, leading private tours in the museums Louvre, Orsay, Versailles and other chateaux and cities of France.
She kept on coming back to India to get more spiritual knowledge. She did Vipassana in Igatpuri in 2010, she stayed in Amma’s ashram, she studied Buddhism in Dharamsala, and did long term retreats in Thailand and in Nepal.

She discovered Zen Shiatsu which she has been practicing for 2 years. This holistic therapy is a good way for her to help people harmonizing their body and their soul. She likes to work in a total state of focused awareness and concentration, restoring the experience of oneness between the microcosm of the body and the Macrocosm. She did the TTC in Koh Phangan in the summer 2012 and kept on teaching yoga in her travels and in Berlin. Noa loves accompanying people in their transformations and help them reveal their full potential.

Hubert, a Scorpio, began practicing Yoga in 1986 during his university years in France. After acquiring a degree in neuroscience he sold his possessions and went traveling in north India, Pakistan, Tibet, Nepal, and Thailand. He has a strong affinity with Buddhism and immersed himself in the cultures of these countries for the next eight years of his life. Also, the freedom he experienced in the mountains led him to become a passionate rock climber and teacher. As he eventually traveled in Australia, he felt at home and ended up living there for 10 years.

Hubert came to Agama in 2007. By that time he already was a Yoga teacher, having completed a teacher training course at VYASA in Bangalore. He feels deeply grateful to Agama, as he felt he finally found a structure which allowed him to ground, stabilize, and integrate his practice within his life. He began teaching at Agama in 2010 and completed its Kundalini program in 2011. He has also completed Agama’s Tantra TTC, introduced in 2013.

Due to Hubert’s passion for earth building and permaculture, in 2009 he took the opportunity to help create a project on Koh Phanghan (www.phanganearthworks.com). He has built two earth bag domes for darkroom retreats and he loves long meditation retreats in complete darkness. He has been happily married to Sofia, who is also an Agama teacher, since 2012.

Sofia, a Cancer, was born in Moscow, Russia, where she grew up. Since an early age she traveled around the world a lot, and so far has visited more than 20 countries.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in international commercial law and she worked as a lawyer for two years. Meanwhile, in 2007 she started practicing Yoga, which began to reshape her consciousness.

Very soon Sofia realized that she aspired for more in life, and she quit her job to go traveling in Asia. During this journey she discovered Agama, attending her first Tantra Workshop on Koh Phangan in 2010 and completing Level 1. As a result, she stayed with the school for the next three years, leaving the island only from time to time. There she met her husband Hubert, who is also an Agama Yoga teacher.

Sofia practiced quite a bit of Yoga before coming to Agama, but never before had she found such clarity, structure, and – most importantly – integrity of teachings. She is very grateful to Swami Vivekananda and Agama for creating the opportunity for her to take the giant leap in her life that occurred since she first came to the school.

Sofia became an Agama Yoga teacher in 2012, and teaching Yoga became her passion. She loves seeing people open more and more with every class.

In 2013 Sofia’s love for dance led her to participate in the Mystical Dance TTC and, shortly afterwards, she also attended the Agama Tantra TTC. It is clear to her that her dharma for this life is being a spiritual teacher.
